Very few bands can produce songs with melodic bass lines. JPJ is definitely awesome, but I feel the magic is the entire band, working together. The Who. The Beatles. Zeppelin. Maybe Rush. and Yes.

If this is Macca he must have just smoked a bone and downed a bottle of 90 proof Scotch. There is absolutely no excitement or feeling in this bass line whatsoever........Unless this is his 1st run through trying to write the bass line.

My first favorite bass player . And still the greatest. I mean that nasty , sexy, groovy, funky, bluesy, riffage that epitomizes Led Zeppelin’s backbone and heartbeat is JPJ. Every melodic note is perfectly placed, seamless, absolutely essential, never superfluous. Without JPJ’s riveting soulful eloquence , Zepp just isn’t. Zepp.

This is great. It is very difficult to fully track the bass through the sounds of the other instruments. When I was a kid listening to this song, portions of the bass line always stood out, and what I retained in my memory.
